Matt Mitcham first came to my attention, and to the rest of the world, when he won Gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and became Australia’s first out gay Olympic Gold Medallist. I’ve long admired him and after getting to photograph him a couple of months earlier we arranged this shoot just before he left Sydney again. When you have a man that looks like classical perfection, you light him the best you know how to make sure you do him justice.
